The weekend thunderstorm brought more than 700 lightning strikes on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. As of Monady night a total of 31 fires were located as a result. 24 of them were contained, controlled or extinguished very quickly, but many more may still be smoldering and aerial reconnaissance flights will continue as officials search for more smoke columns. There was also a fire north of Redding along I-5 in the Turntable Bay Area Monady, which was extinguished. The Ward Fire, located just over the Oregon border 13 miles west of Keno, started from lightning early Friday morning. It’s 1300 acres and 34% contained.
