Driver Of SUV Sought After Trailer Sparks Fire

A fire ripped through some brush and trees at the northern edge of Redding Tuesday night, and investigators say it was sparked by a boat trailer. The fire started at around 6:30PM off of Oasis Road near Randolph Road west of the freeway. Redding Fire investigators say that a vehicle was traveling west on Oasis Road when a tire blew out and sparks from it ignited the dry grass. The driver continued to pull the unlicensed trailer and eventually stopped and unhooked it before fleeing the scene. Authorities believe that a green Chevy Blazer was responsible. A Cal-Fire tanker dropped a line of retardant across the head of the blaze and it was stopped at 11 acres without damaging any structures.
