Drive-By Shooting Investigation Leads To Arrest

A man has been arrested for a couple of drive-by shootings in Redding that were done just over a year ago. In the middle of the night on August 6th of last year five shots were fired into a home on Montcrest Drive in the Mission De Oro neighborhood. One bullet barely missed a sleeping 10-month-old baby. 30 minutes later and 3 and a half miles away multiple shots were fired into two different apartments on Robert Court off of Hartnell Avenue. Children were also sleeping in one of those apartments but nobody was struck. 9 millimeter shell casings were found at both scenes and sent to the California Department of Justice Lab. An RPD investigation pointed to 24-year-old Rakim Exavier Leedy as a possible suspect. Detectives believed the shootings may have been in retaliation for Leedy being reported as a suspect in an armed robbery. On August 14th of last year a search warrant was served where Leedy was staying on Airport Road. Investigators found an Intratec Tec-9 9 millimeter assault weapon, a 9 millimeter handgun and ammunition. A forensic examination by the crime lab finally matched the shell casings to the handgun and Wednesday Leedy was arrested at a home on Court Street. He’s being held on a Quarter Million Dollars bail.
