Money raised through a Redding Radio fundraiser to help law enforcement is being disbursed after far exceeding expectations. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office had asked the community for help with the cost of rifle proof protection vests for its deputies. Don Burton and Heather Ryan, the morning show hosts on our sister station K-shasta 104.3, held a “Campout for Cops” beneath the giant American Flag on North Bechelli Lane as they attempted to raise donations totaling 5,000 Dollars. Don and Heather were supported by Sheriff Tom Bosenko, “Back the Blue”, the Enterprise Lions Club, KQMS, and the other stations of Redding Radio. The plan was for a 3 day event with a goal of 5000 Dollars. After 18 hours the total collected was 20,000 Dollars, so the event ended early. With more than enough to cover the cost of the vests. 16,000 Dollars will buy the vests for the sheriff’s office, as well as a pole mount infrared camera that will allow deputies to see into confined spaces from a distance. 3000 Dollars will help buy new bullet resistant helmets for the Redding Police Department. The remaining 1000 Dollars will be used by “We Back the Blue” to fund a non-profit application process. The checks will be officially presented Tuesday afternoon at the sheriff’s office.
