One of the three houses destroyed in the Lake Fire was the home of Shasta Lake City Council Member Pam Morgan and Shasta County Supervisor Candidate Steve Morgan. The couple was away at the time but their home was directly in the path of the fire that reduced everything to rubble as it tore through the area between Lake and Hill Boulevards. The fire quickly spread to the north and northwest as it jumped back and forth across Lake Boulevard with the shifting winds. The structural damage was almost all on Hill Boulevard, which runs parallel with Lake. The fire was eventually stopped at around 75 acres. Dozens of homes were evacuated. The sheriff’s office says 28-year-old Joshua Devaney of Oak Run crashed a car at the corner of Lake and Hill Saturday afternoon and started the blaze. A passerby pulled him to safety and he reportedly fled the scene but a short time later he approached a deputy in the midst of evacuations and admitted to being responsible for causing the fire. He was arrested for DUI.
