Local elementary school students and Rotarian’s will be aggressively pushing for duck adoptions this week in preparation for the 27th annual Ducky Derby on Sunday. At around 1 O’clock thousands of numbered little rubber ducks will be dropped into the Sacramento River from the Diestelhorst Bridge and the first ducks to cross the finish line will win some great prizes for their adopters. For the grand prize Shasta Marina has donated a houseboat vacation with a 500 gift card and gas for the boat donated by Umpqua Bank. The Ducky Derby is a Redding East Rotary event and adoption tickets are sold by schools and youth groups, who get to keep all the proceeds. Details are at reddingduckyderby.com. This Sunday’s derby coincides with “Art in the Park” with lots of local artwork and kid’s activities starting at 10AM.
