Pursuit Of Stolen Van Ends With Crash Near Shasta Lake City

A 27-year-old Redding man led Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies on a wild pursuit overnight. Just before Midnight deputies spotted a reported stolen van at Buenaventura and Placer. They followed it and confirmed with dispatch it was stolen, then tried to pull it over at 11th Street but the driver immediately took off. He stopped at California Street and Eureka Way and 26-year-old Tamia Wilcox got out. She was arrested on drug-related charges while other deputies kept chasing the van for a few minutes. The driver was running red lights and making other dangerous moves so the pursuit was called off. The van was soon spotted near Lake and Hilltop. Ot looked like it was going to stop in a parking lot but the driver took off when deputies tried to swoop in. Another chase then began but was terminated again when the van headed the wrong way on Interstate Five. With help from the CHP the van was spotted again on Oasis Road and followed onto Akrich Street, where a spike strip was used. The driver avoided it but then jumped out while the van was still moving. It collided with a parked car. The driver ran but was caught after a short foot chase. 27-year-old Jesse David Owens was already on probation for auto theft.
