Local schools and youth groups can expect 175,000 Dollars to be returned to them in January from Sunday’s Ducky Derby. The 27th annual event run by Redding East Rotary in Caldwell Park involved 35,514 little rubber ducks getting dumped off the Diestelhorst Bridge. They floated 200 yards downriver as crowds cheered them on from the park, where the North Valley Art League arts and craft faire was underway. The grand prize winning duck had been adopted by Jack Jackson, who wins a Shasta Marina houseboat vacation and 500 Dollars from Umpqua Bank. He bought his ticket at Mistletoe School. The second place “Giant Giants Weekend” from Interwest Insurance was won by Dixie Geissner of Cassel, who bought her ticket from Intermountain Youth Sports. The top duck seller this year was Hannah Batten of Saint Joseph’s School, who sold 300. Donations and in-kind services covered expenses, so all the money raised will go back to the groups who raised it.
