Woman Accused Of Stealing Purse From Crash Scene

A woman who was accused by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office of stealing a woman’s purse at an accident scene has come forward. 67-year-old Carole Hardcastle’s purse was taken from her after she crashed her car on Highway 299 near Kern Drive in Bella Vista September 8th. A traumatic head injury left her in intensive care for 4 days. A woman who called her family and claimed to have the purse identified herself as Candace Wade. In the days that followed numerous fraudulent transactions were done with Hardcastle’s debit and credit cards. Surveillance footage at two of the businesses led to the arrests of Sherry Perez and William Daniels on Wednesday. Candace Wade heard that she was wanted, so Thursday she contacted the sheriff’s office and was interviewed. She was not arrested. Her statements will be given to the district attorney’s office. The sheriff’s department hasn’t said if she’s still considered to be a suspect.
