A woman may have escaped a domestic violence situation before it was too late, according to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. Wednesday the woman left to take a walk from the home off of Placer Street that she shared with her boyfriend, 49-year-old Trampas John Smith. When she got home a verbal argument started and it quickly escalated until Smith allegedly picked up a machete and told the woman that if she left the house again he would kill her. She says Smith shoved her to the floor with his free hand and pushed the machete into her leg then kicked her in the thigh several times. He then reportedly placed his knee on her neck and sunk his body weight onto her until she passed out. When she awoke she says she stayed on the floor until Smith fell asleep and then she fled the house and went straight to One Safe Place for help. One Safe Place staff took her to a hospital to be treated for damaged tendons in her neck, chest pain and swelling to her thigh. She’s now being housed in a secret location. Deputies found Trampas Smith at his house early Thursday morning and booked him into jail for charges including attempted murder.
