A man who was killed by a train in South Redding has been identified, though the coroner’s office has been unable to contact the victim’s family and they’re asking for help in doing so. At around 5 O’clock Tuesday afternoon 42-year-old Chan Tharat Phimpphilavong was on the railroad bridge over Clear Creek next to Highway 273. He was running to try and get off the bridge ahead of a northbound freight train, but he was overtaken and died at the scene. The coroners office says he had no local law enforcement contacts but had recently been paroled in Oregon. He was apparently from Seattle, where it’s believed his father lives. He may have been on his way to visit an aunt in Merced. Anyone who can help find Phimpphilavong’s next of kin is asked to call the coroner’s office.
