Opening statements began Wednesday in the trial of a man accused in a hit-and-run that killed a Cottonwood boy last December. 15-year-old Aaron Mieger was walking with another boy south along the side of Main Street in Cottonwood when a southbound Toyota Camry approached from behind. The car went onto the shoulder for unknown reasons and struck Mieger but missed the other boy. The driver then fled the scene. Mieger was taken to Mercy Medical Center where he was in critical condition until he passed away 3 days later. A team of CHP investigators identified the suspect as 25-year-old Robert Lloyd Tyler. He was taken into custody after allegedly confessing that he was the man behind the wheel. He’s on trial for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and hit and run. His trial is expected to conclude next week.
