Storm Causes Outages, Slows Morning Commute

Thousands of people have no electricity Friday morning in Shasta County. PG&E is reporting outages for about 3000 customers in the Anderson and Cottonwood area in various spots, 1200 in a large area covering Placer Road, Clear Creek Road, Happy Valley, Igo, Ono, Centerville and West Cottonwood, about 400 in the Inwood area of Shingletown, 30 in Whitmore, 7 near Old Alturas and Old Oregon Trail and other areas as well. Downed PG&E lines can be reported at 1-800-743-5000.

It’s hasn’t been a good night to be on Shasta County roads, and the day is not promising to be much better. Huge boulders were reported in the middle of Highway 299 east of Oak Run Road, a big rig rolled over on southbound Interstate 5 near Dog Creek Road at 1:20AM, and power lines and utility poles are down all over the place, including multiple downed poles on Clear Creak Road, blocking both directions. There are more road problems than we can possibly cover. Drivers should not assume anything will be as normal on their morning commutes. Highway conditions can be checked at 1-800-gas-road.
