A reward has greatly increased for the capture of a man who allegedly shot at a wildlife officer in Humboldt County. On August 21st the California Department of Fish and Wildlife said the warden was patrolling for poachers off Highway 36 near Carlotta and attempted to stop a pickup truck carrying people suspected of spotlighting – shining a bright light into an animal’s eyes at night to freeze it in place before shooting it. A man in the back of the truck shot at the officer as he tried to stop their vehicle. The poachers continued firing at the officer as he pursued them until they crashed into a tree and fled on foot. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office somehow determined that the shooter is 24-year-old Shawn Eugene Hof Jr. He’s 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Several non-profit organizations have pitched in for a reward of 20,000 Dollars.
