Deputies Raid Marijuana Grow In Cottonwood

Two arrests were made in a raid of a medical marijuana growing operation in the Bowman area of Cottonwood Tuesday morning. Tehama County Sheriff’s Deputies and Tehama Interagency Drug Enforcement served a search warrant at a home on Farquhar Road.  56-year-old Mervin James and 31-year-old Kristi Singer were found tending plants and processing the bud. Another man ran away, but officials say they know who he is. There was a large outdoor garden and several outbuildings that served as greenhouses, drying rooms and processing rooms. Another greenhouse was found on an adjoining property. A total of 191 plants were seized plus 50 pounds of processed bud. Officials say the operation was a business with regular employees filling out time cards. The owner wasn’t there. Deputies also reported finding several guns, including assault rifles, a silencer, handguns, lots of ammunition, bullet proof vests, and a ballistic helmet.
