SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – California elections officials are braced for robust election turnout, confused first-time voters and the prospect of long lines Tuesday for the presidential election. A record 19.4 million state residents have registered. Data tracking firm Political Data Inc. is reporting about 5 million people by Monday had already cast ballots in early voting. Many marked their ballots at home, but elections officials throughout the state also reported heavy in-person crowds at polling sites over the weekend and Monday. Los Angeles County’s Registrar-Recorder spokesman Mike Sanchez says some voters waited in line for three hours or more to cast ballots over the weekend. Nearly 18,000 early ballots were cast in the county over the weekend. Kim Alexander, president of the nonprofit and nonpartisan California Voter Foundation, predicted long lines for Election Day.
