A pedestrian was killed by a train early Monday morning in Redding. At 2:45AM the man was walking on the tracks southbound about 800 feet north of the Eureka Way overcrossing when a train approached with the lights working and the horn blaring. The man never attempted to move out of the way and was struck by the locomotive going about 40 miles an hour. He suffered major trauma and his body was found to the west of the tracks. His identity will be released after family is notified.
