Longtime Shasta Speedway Announcer Passes Away

The North State has lost a local auto racing legend. Gary Cressey is as responsible as anyone for the success of Shasta Speedway over the last 50 years, during which time he was the announcer for every race.  The oval track at the fairgrounds in Anderson has boosted the careers of a number of famous drivers, including Donnie and Bobby Allison, Mark Martin, Rick Carelli, and Bill Schmidt. The road behind the speedway is called Gary Cressey Boulevard. He was also owner of Cressey Beverage Distributing and a member of the Asphalt Cowboys. Gary Cressey passed away Wednesday at the age of 80.
