Funding For Redding Veterans Clinic Approved

A congressional committee has approved funding for a new veterans affairs clinic in Redding. The new facility will consolidate operations of two existing clinics, and it will have 50% more space than the other two facilities combined. The extra space will allow for 17 additional mental health providers, a mammography division and a second x-ray unit. The added services will mean hopefully decrease the amount of travel to Sacramento and beyond that veterans have been forced to make. What’s not yet known is where the new clinic will be. Redding planners have already approved a proposal by \Maurice Johannessen, who wants to donate some land he owns across Knighton Road from the state-owned veterans home for a huge veterans services campus, including apartments and a medical clinic. The V.A. has yet to announce a decision on location.
