When it comes to prime time culinary competitions, Redding is definitely on the map. Following the victory of 12-year-old Josh Altamura last week on “Chopped Junior”, another nationally televised cooking show has been won by local bakers. Although it was taped months ago, Monday night was the first airing of the championship competition on “Cake Wars”. The Saccheri family, who owns the bakery “Sublime” on Park Marina Drive, were previous winners of “Cake Wars”, and they returned to face a contest of other winners on “Cake Wars Champs”. They took it with flying colors- well a lot of blue and yellow anyway. The required theme was the new Smurf movie. Not only does Sublime get the priceless bragging rights as champions of champions, they also won $10,000. Josh Altamura is not done with his stint on “Chopped Junior”. He returns as a judge in an episode that will air at 5 O’clock Wednesday on the Food Network.
