This years Mothers Day weekend at Shasta Lake was subdued, due to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. Last year students from Oregon State trashed the lake and left a large amount of garbage in their wake. This year the sheriff’s office says that the number of houseboats rented and the number of students at the lake were lower. About 65 houseboats were moored at Slaughterhouse Island. The sheriffs office says that boat traffic was light and that deputies only wrote 1 citation. 2 people were stopped for suspicion of boating under the influence, but no arrests were made. The sheriffs office is crediting their cooperation with Forest Service and local resorts for the mild weekend.
