Public target shooting areas along Iron Mountain Road in the Keswick area are restricted while the Bureau of Land Management completes a project. Heavy equipment will be used to build earthen structures and sedimentation basins in order to reduce the amount of lead-contaminated storm water runoff into nearby streams, and eventually the river. The work is mandated by State Water Quality officials, who recently collected soil samples with lead levels that exceed state standards. To protect workers, no shooting is allowed until after May 26th, with the exception of this weekend.
