Chief Gray: Fire Season Begins May 29th

Redding Fire Chief Gerry Gray is declaring that next Monday the 29rd marks the start of the 2017 fire season. That begins an approximately four month period where the potential of wildfire is greatly increased. In the last four years Redding has averaged 182 wildfires in each of those 4 to 5 month seasons. Wildfires are of particular concern in Redding, which has many zones of wildland/urban interface where thick vegetation in greenbelts grows right up to the backyards of densely populated neighborhoods. Residents are advised by the fire department to make their property fire safe by removing clutter, combustible materials and dry vegetation to create a buffer between their homes and the soon-to-be tinder dry greenbelts. Help in doing so is available at reddingfire.org or by calling 225-4141.
