Crews Expect To Ignite Prescribed Burns Delayed By Weather

A couple of controlled burns are planned for this week on the open plains of Tehama County. Cal-Fire and the Nature Conservancy are teaming up with ranchers to conduct the rangeland burns, which will improve cattle grazing by eliminating non-native noxious grasses, as well as Medusa Head and Star Thistle. If weather permits, 600 acres will be torched Wednesday on the Vina Plains off Highway 99 and Hallie Road. Another 800 acres will be torched Thursday in the Dye Creek Area near Los Molinos. The burns will be done between 8AM and 5PM. Burns planned for last week in that area were canceled due to winds in the forecast.
