A police officer was injured while apprehending a wrong-way driver in Siskiyou County. A little after One O’clock Wednesday morning somebody reported an Acura SUV going south in the northbound lanes of Interstate Five on the Anderson Grade north of Yreka. A Yreka Police Officer spotted the vehicle and gave chase but the driver kept going on the wrong side. CHP Officers responded to assist. They stopped northbound traffic and laid out a spike strip at Julien Creek. It worked and deflated one of the tires but still the driver kept going until the Acura would go no further and stopped a couple of miles south of Grenada. The driver refused to get out and a standoff continued for more than an hour-and-a-half. Eventually officers decided to force the man out but during the extrication a Yreka Police Officer was injured and had to be treated at a hospital. The driver, identified as 43-year-old Walter Wilfred Salazar-Ardon of Lynnwood, Washington, was also taken to the hospital to be treated before being booked into jail.
