A 48-year-old Red Bluff man has been sentenced to prison after using a shotgun to drive his point home while in an argument with another man. In November of last year, Michael Townsend called 9-1-1 to report that Jason Holtman had pointed a shotgun at him and made threats. Before deputies arrived at the Sykes Road location, Holtman had fled to a neighboring home. As they spoke with Townsend, Holtman came outside to talk to them as well. He was not armed and, while admitting he had been in possession of the shotgun, he denied pointing it at Townsend. He said he had given the gun to a female friend and she had left with it, but witnesses said nobody had come or gone. The homeowner consented to a search and deputies eventually found a short-barreled shotgun in a plastic bag buried in the backyard garden. Holtman was forbidden from having a gun due to a prior felony. He was convicted of assault with a firearm, use of a firearm, criminal threats, possession of a gun and ammunition by a felon and possession of a short barreled shotgun. He’s been sentenced to 17 years in prison.
