In light of a recent increase in crimes on Redding’s trails and parks, the police department has announced that they’ll increase patrols in those areas. They’ll be collaborating with the CHP and place officers on bicycles, off-road motorcycles, and on foot. The RPD’s Neighborhood Police Unit will also focus on those same areas. The department has also offered the following tips on how to help avoid being a victim while enjoying public spaces:
Be aware of your surroundings and avoid distractions like headphones
There’s safety in numbers so travel in groups if possible
Walk confidently
Looking people in the eye tells them you know of them and might recognize them later
Lock you car and don’t leave valuables inside- leave them at home
Carry a cell phone in your pocket
Have a plan for what to do in an emergency
Suspicious activity can be reported to the Shascom non-emergency line at 225-4564.
