Redding Police are actively pursuing possible leads in hopes of identifying a rapist who attacked a woman on the Sacramento River Trail Saturday morning. The victim called 9-1-1 at around 8:30AM from Washington Avenue, where she had run for help. She had been in the area of the Ribbon Bridge when she was assaulted and raped. After the attack the man fled westbound on a dirt trail. The victim described him as a white man, about 6-feet-tall with a stocky build. He was wearing a mask, a blue hoodie, a green army jacket, gray sweat pants and boots. Follow-up interviews with the victim have been done, surveillance footage has been obtained and tips from the public have been received, which investigators hope will pan out. Anyone who was in that area Saturday morning might be a witness without knowing it and should call 225-4214.
