A man who committed a botched carjacking in Redding has been given a very long prison sentence. Last June 28th Amelia Nelle was at the Walgreen’s on Lake Boulevard when 31-year-old Douglas Stout pushed her from behind and knocked her into the side of her vehicle. When she turned around Stout was pointing a semi auto 9 millimeter pistol at her and telling her to get in her car or he would kill her. Nelle yelled, pushed the gun away, gave Stout a good shove and then got in her car and drove away. Nelle identified Stout in a photo lineup and described the gun in detail. Two days later stout was spotted in East Redding and captured by a K-9. He had a gun that matched the description, as well as latex gloves, several pairs of pantyhose and a lot of condoms. Stout was a parolee out of San Bernardino County who had served 5 prior prison terms. He had just been released from custody the previous month so he could attend a drug treatment program, which he walked away from. Stout was sentenced Tuesday to over 35 years in state prison, 85% of which he must serve before being eligible for parole.
