Underwater Search For 12-year-old in Lake Shasta Suspended

The underwater search has been suspended for a 12-year-old boy presumed drowned in Lake Shasta. Monday evening Auston Strole was riding a tube being pulled by a ski boat near Digger Bay. A juvenile girl was driving the boat and because she’s under the age of 16, the only adult in the boat, 50-year-old Robert Noftz of Red Bluff, was legally the supervising adult and was eventually arrested for boating under the influence. There were also 3 other kids in the boat. Noftz reportedly told the girl to try and knock Strole off the tube. She turned the boat sharply and the boat hit its own wake and came about, heading straight back to Strole. He jumped from the tube trying to get out of the way but he went under the bow of the boat and disappeared. His life vest surfaced with damage from the propeller but there’s been no sign of Strole. On Wednesday Boating Safety Deputies and the Sheriff’s Dive Team used sonar equipment and an underwater robot as they searched as deep as 240 feet. Deputies will continue to search the surface.
