It’s burning in old growth mixed Conifer forest about 14 miles west of Etna in an area with no large recorded fire history, but it’s surrounded on the north, west and south by areas of large fires that burned in recent years. The Island Fire is about 736 acres with no containment. Officials expect growth of 180 to 300 acres over the next day or so.
