Wall Fire Grows To Over 5600 Acres

The North State’s worst fire of the year so far started just before 3PM Friday afternoon in Butte County 5 miles west of Bangor. The Wall Fire quickly grew to 2000 acres before nightfall Friday. Over the weekend it spread to more than 5600 acres and it’s now 35% contained.  At least 17 homes have been destroyed and around 5400 structures remain threatened. A vast area remains under mandatory evacuation orders, with about 4000 people displaced from their homes.  4 people have been injured. Redding Fire Department and a number of other agencies have sent firefighters and equipment to help. Governor Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency for Butte County.
