K-9 Apprehends Wanted Suspect Near Sacramento River

A K-9 helped Redding Police track down a wanted man Wednesday afternoon. Officers were looking for 48-year-old John Barnett, who’s on active parole for terrorist threats. There was a report that Barnett had brandished a gun during an argument and then fled below the south end of railroad trestle just off Riverside Drive. With help from a CHP helicopter the RPD went looking for Barnett. He had changed his clothing while fleeing into the thick brush. Chyr the K-9 tracked him to a homeless camp along the river’s edge, where Barnett quickly surrendered to avoid a dogbite. Officers say there apparently was no gun just a lighter that looked like one. Barnett was taken in for a parole violation.
