Crews Making Steady Progress On Fires North Of Redding

Forest Service crews have made good progress on fires to the north, with rainfall providing a huge assist.

The Modoc Lightning Complex is more than 83,000 acres, with a dozen new fires sparked by the most recent storm. Overall containment is now 91%. 4 firefighters have been injured of the 1700 working the fires. The Steele Fire north and east of Clear Lake Reservoir near the Oregon Border is 46,000 acres. The 39,000 acre Cove Fire northwest of Adin is now fully contained.

Many of the fire resources in Modoc County have been diverted to the Parker 2 Fire, burning in the Warner Mountains. It started last Thursday and has grown to 8100 acres with 30% containment.

7 miles southwest of Happy Camp, the Clear Fire has burned over 6400 acres of steep heavily forested terrain, with 45% containment.

The eight fires of the Orleans Complex in the Six Rivers National Forest, 20 miles north of Orleans, now total more than 5,000 acres with containment of 11%. All but one are in backcountry areas and burning slowly, but the Ukonom Fire continues to spread through very steep terrain.
