Drivers should always keep an eye out for youngsters walking to and from school, but Wednesday that’s extra important because it’s “International Walk To School Day”. Elected officials, principals, and parents will lead groups of students to participating Shasta County schools in Burney, Millville, Palo Cedro, Redding, Happy Valley and Anderson. Thousands of students are expected to participate. Some of them will be organized as “walking school busses”, moving as a group for better visibility. The Shasta County Safe Routes To School Program by Shasta County Public Health works year-round to promote the healthy alternative of walking instead of riding.
