Chico State Fraternity Sentenced For Cutting Down Trees

A Chico fraternity and its chapter president were sentenced on Tuesday for illegally cutting down trees in the Lassen National Forest. On the weekend of April 21st, members of the Chico State Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha were at the Deer Creek Trailhead Campground for an initiation of new pledges. They cut down 32 trees while they were there. After pleading guilty the fraternity itself has been sentenced in federal court to 9800 hours of community service, three years probation and a $4000 fine. They also must pay restitution of around $4400 to the Lassen National Forest. Former chapter president Evan Jossey was given probation and a $1000 fine. The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office helped in the investigation.
