A woman was arrested for drunk driving after a crash in Downtown Redding that injured several people, including the driver’s 2-year-old child. At around 8 O’clock Saturday night 30-year-old Taryn Curran was driving a Toyota Rav 4 northbound on Court Street. Witnesses said she was driving at high speed and ran a red light at Tehama Street, and then ran another red light at Shasta Street, where she nearly ran over a child in the crosswalk. Meanwhile, 33-year-old Star Webb was on Shasta Street driving three children home after watching the Downtown Lighted Christmas Parade. As her Buick Enclave was passing through the intersection at Court Street, it was struck on the right side by Curran’s Toyota, causing the Buick to roll over onto its side. Webb’s two children, ages 5 and 8, and their 8-year-old friend were all transported to Mercy Hospital with scrapes and bruises and complaints of pain. One of them may have suffered internal injuries. Webb had a few bruises. when police arrived, witnesses told them that a toddler had been riding in Curran’s Toyota and was picked up by someone else before they got there. Curran denied that a child had been in the car. Officers examined the Toyota and found a child safety seat that was not latched or seatbelted. They checked both hospitals and several addresses associated with Curran, but they could not locate the child. They also called the child’s father, 29-year-old Cody Borders, who came to the scene and said he hadn’t seen his 2-year-old daughter and didn’t know where she was. Curran was not wearing her seatbelt and suffered multiple serious injuries. She was hospitalized, and apparently told medical personnel that she had been drinking. Borders later showed up at Mercy Hospital with the little girl, who was suffering from a contusion to her head and abdominal bruising, indicating possible internal injuries. Curran is charged with felony DUI, five counts of felony child endangerment and providing false statements to police. Borders may face charges as well.
