The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a house fire in Bella Vista that claimed the lives of four people may have been started intentionally and may have been the result of a murder suicide. Cal-Fire and Shasta County firefighters were called to a home in the 11000 block of Bella Vista Court on Sunday evening. Crews initially found one person dead inside the burning home. The fire destroyed the majority of the roof and it had collapsed covering the interior of the home with roofing materials. A firefighter was able to enter the home and found the bodies of 4 adults, two dogs, and a cat. Firefighters found and male and female in the living room with gunshot wounds and a small caliber handgun was found next to the female. Crews also found two other bodies in a bedroom and both of them had suffered gunshot wounds. A dog was also found with a gunshot wound. The sheriff’s office major crimes unit is investigating the case as a possible murder suicide. Cal-Fire is working to determine a cause of the fire and both agencies are processing the home for evidence. The identity of the 2 males and 2 females has not been released and autopsies are planed for later this week.
