A man was arrested Monday night after a stand off at an East Redding mobile home park that lasted over an hour. Police were called to the mobile home park at 1221 East Cypress Avenue by 59-year-old Sheldon Lee Scott. He told dispatchers that there were intruders surrounding his home and that he had armed himself with a shotgun. Officers attempted to get Scott to exit his house and he apparently refused saying that the he didn’t think they were real officers. Officers learned that Scott’s girlfriend was also in the mobile home and a police corporal began negotiating for her to be able to safely leave the home. Scott refused to allow her to leave and police say he became increasingly paranoid. An armored vehicle was brought to the scene and after about an hour and a half Scott exited the home without a struggle and surrendered. Officers believed that Scott may have been suffering from a mental breakdown, but it was determined that he had been using methamphetamine. A 12 gauge shotgun was found inside and was seized as evidence. Scott was booked into the Shasta County Jail.
