A former top prosecutor for Shasta County has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the top Federal prosecutor for this district. McGregor Scott was the Shasta County District Attorney from 1997 to 2003 until he was appointed by President George W. Bush as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California. The expansive district covers 34 counties from the Oregon border to the Los Angeles County line. He had the job from 2003 until 2009, when he left to be a partner in a private law firm focusing on white collar crime and corporate investigations. In December, President Trump nominated Scott to take the powerful position again. The nomination was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Wednesday.
