A woman from San Francisco who shot a Red Bluff resident and then shot at pursuing Tehama County Deputies has received a lengthy prison sentence. Very early the morning of last September Third 29-year-old Stephanie Torres shot a 46-year-old man 4 times with a 22 caliber pistol at the Red Bluff Meadow Apartments on Kimball Road. The victim has apparently recovered. Red Bluff Police suspected Torres, who was already wanted in two street robberies at gunpoint in the previous two weeks. At around 3AM September 4th deputies were dispatched to a disturbance on Wiltsey Avenue just outside Red Bluff. When they got there they were told a gold Toyota had just fled. They spotted the car a short time later and tried to stop it but it sped away. Torres was in the car and she told the driver that if he stopped she would kill the deputies. With three sheriff’s vehicles in pursuit, the Toyota driver tried to get away and deputies counted 10 to 12 muzzle flashes as Torres fired on the deputies. Eventually the chase ended at the same apartment complex as the previous shooting. By then Red Bluff Police and CHP Officers had joined the deputies, who found and arrested Torres. No gun was found in the car but the pursuit route was retraced and a handgun was found in the roadway. Last month a jury returned guilty verdicts on multiple felonies, including three counts of attempted murder of peace officer. Torres has been sentenced to more than 77 years in state prison.
