Shasta County is joining a huge lawsuit being filed against the manufacturers and distributors of highly addictive opioid based painkillers. Several dozen California Counties are named as plaintiffs in the civil suit that’s being filed by a team of private law firms against the makers of Oxycontin, Percodan, Norco and several other drugs that the suit says have been marketed in ways that understate their risks and misrepresent their benefits. The suit also names three of the nation’s largest distributors, who are blamed for failing to monitor suspiciously large and frequent Opioid shipments to pharmacies. The law firms involved represent hundreds of cities and counties across the country in a massive series of lawsuits involving Billions of Dollars. The Shasta County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday morning to get involved on a contingency fee basis, meaning there’s no fee unless the lawyers are successful.
