The Latest: Judge OKs DNA Collecting In Serial Killer Case

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – A judge has ruled authorities can collect DNA, fingerprints and body photos of the man suspected of being California’s Golden State Killer. Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Michael Sweet ruled Thursday in favor of prosecutors. Public Defender Diane Howard had filed a motion to stop the evidence collection. The judge says courts have repeatedly upheld collection of such evidence. The suspect, 72-year-old Joseph DeAngelo, appeared in court handcuffed to a wheelchair. He did not speak to the court. He was arrested last week on suspicion of numerous murders and rapes in the 1970s and 1980s.
