Trinity County officials are trying to determine the identity of a man found dead in a pickup truck that crashed and become consumed in fire. At 9:50AM Thursday morning the Forest Service and Trinity Center volunteer firefighters responded to a fire on Eastside Road 11 miles east of Highway 3. It took some time to extinguish a growing brush fire and in the middle of it was a 2003 Toyota pickup truck with a dead man behind the wheel. The CHP says the truck had been traveling westbound when it left the road, struck several trees and burst into flames. There were apparently no witnesses. No information has been found to identify the driver.
