An arrest has been made for a small vegetation fire at the southern edge of Redding. The fast moving blaze broke out at 1:25PM Tuesday afternoon in the brush off of Canyon Road about a half mile from Highway 273 very close to where the stolen van full of show dogs was found a couple of weeks ago. It was held to about a half-acre by an aggressive multi-agency attack from Cal-Fire and Redding Fire Department. Investigators from both agencies determined the fire was started intentionally by 46-year-old Joseph Urbonas, who lives in a house on Canyon Road directly across the street from the fire. He reportedly said he started the fire because he was distraught and wanted to die. He’s been booked into Shasta County Jail for arson.
