Firefighters are finishing up their work on two fires in the area. Containment lines are still being reinforced around the Creek Incident, which is now 98% contained. The fires burned 1678 acres and destroyed four homes, along with 7 other minor structures. The series of fires started along Clear Creek Road and the Igo and Cloverdale Areas in the early afternoon of June 24th. A suspect vehicle, identified as a 1990’s model tan or gold minivan, has apparently not been located.
A fire that started southeast of Douglas City a week ago near Blanchard Flat Road and Reading Creek road is now 90% contained. The “Flat Fire” burned more than 300 acres of heavy timber on steep, difficult terrain. hundreds of firefighters remain on scene. The cause is still under investigation.
Redding Firefighters got a quick jump on a vegetation fire near Mercy Medical Center Wednesday night. The blaze started a little before 11 O’clock on the hillside below the hospital. It was contained at about an acre of dry grass and brush by a first alarm response. The cause is not known.
