The man who died after crashing his SUV into a canal on Churn Creek earlier this week has been identified. The Shasta County Coroner’s Office says that 35-year-old Jordan Tony Ray Hiland died as a result of the crash on Churn Creek Road near the Shasta Center. On Tuesday afternoon, Hiland was driving a 2006 Honda Pilot northbound on Churn Creek just south of Presidio when it crashed through a chain link fence and dropped down into the canal across the street from Dairy Queen. The SUV slid sideways until the driver’s side hit the top of the tunnel into the storm drain system. Officers at the scene said the passenger had minor injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. Police said they don’t know if alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision.
