A fatal traffic collision occurred Wednesday morning just west of Redding. It happened on Highway 299 west at Lower Springs Road at 10:42AM. Witnesses reported that a Toyota van driven by an 81-year-old man from Redding was traveling westbound and was attempting to make a left turn onto Lower Springs Road. A 31-year-old man from Hayfork was traveling eastbound on the highway on a Kawasaki motorcycle, and was unable to avoid striking the mini van, according to CHP Officer Jason Morton. The rider was ejected and he was pronounced dead the the scene after live saving efforts were attempted. The name of the rider has not been released.
