Council May Approve City Wide Fire Fuels Management District

Experts have long warned that Redding’s pattern of building homes on ridgetops that back up to wooded canyons is a recipe for disaster. Management of those wooded greenbelts has been a goal continually recommended but repeatedly delayed. Now the Carr Fire might be prompting the city to do something about it. A budget resolution coming before the council on Tuesday will propose the establishment of a city-wide fire fuels management district. If the council approves ordering an engineering report, and if that report calls for a district to be established, it would then need to be approved by voters as fees will be levied.
