A Corning man miscalculated in his scheme to stay out of prison. Changes in sentencing in recent years mean that a thief who steals less than $950 worth of goods is only guilty of a misdemeanor. 57-year-old Curtis Lyndon Arnold was arrested on May 9th. He had found someone’s lost debit card and he used it four times at different businesses in transactions that totaled less than $950. However, Arnold is also a registered sex offender, meaning that each of the fraudulent purchases counts as a felony. Arnold has been sentenced to 8 years in state prison.
